Lanarkshire parks awarded with the Green Flag


Three South Lanarkshire parks have received prestigious Green Flag awards.

The environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful gives these accolades each year and recognizes quality green spaces across the country that help improve the health and well-being of our country.

The winning parks in South Lanarkshire are Strathaven Park, Cambuslang Park and Castlebank Park.

The international Green Flag Award is administered in Scotland by Keep Scotland Beautiful and serves as a benchmark for outdoor recreational spaces.

The award celebrates well-maintained parks and green spaces and supports the opportunities they provide to enable exercise, improve mental well-being and provide safe play areas – something that has been especially important for everyone. in the past 18 months.

More than 2,000 parks around the world won the award this year.

Among the 2021 winners are spaces run by local authorities, community groups and various other organizations, including the NHS.

South Lanarkshire Council Community and Business Resource Committee Chairman Councilor John Anderson said he was “delighted” that three parks in the area are being recognized.

He told us : ““ This is a testament to the hard work and effort that goes through every day by everyone associated with the parks, including board staff and volunteer groups.

“Having such beautiful green spaces on our doorstep is one of the many perks of living in a beautiful area like South Lanarkshire.

“Congratulations to everyone who helped parks achieve Green Flag status. “
